What boots should I buy for a 30 day trek in the rockies?

I am going on a 30 day trip in the mountians. I have never bought hiking boots before. What are the best brands? I also need to know what socks I need to buy for the trip.

Im looking to spend under 150 on the boots....

Make sure your boots have a really hard to bend sole, probably Vibram rubber, as this will provide support to your foot as you walk over uneven terrain and rocks. Make sure that your shoes are waterproof. Spend the extra couple of dollars on some with GoreTex liners. You probably want good ankle support, too, since you%26#039;ve got such a heavy load.

I wear sock liners with wool socks (helps with itchiness and wicks the moisture off your foot) and you should probably pack 3 pairs- 1 to wear, 1 you%26#039;re washing (wash your socks every night or every other night) and 1 in case you lose a sock or pair of socks.

At REI.com there%26#039;s a boot made by Merrell but it%26#039;s the REI brand name and it%26#039;s about $120. I have the girl version of this boot and I love it. Also, REI takes returns on EVERYTHING, even boots that were used on a month long hike in the Rockies and you don%26#039;t like them anymore. And their sale starts Friday.

Whatever you end up with, take it out on a practice hike right away so you end up with somethign good for your big trek.
Reply:Asolos are the best.

Reply:i don%26#039;t mean to offend, but the above answer is a little miss leading. what you are going to need is a Backpacking boot, for the support and durability. Personally i like the La Sportiva Trango Trek GTX, it is lighter than most but still offers you the functions of a backpacking boot.

As for socks, you should probably go with a system of liner socks and either synthetic or wool medium to heavy cusion. I personally like Smartwool. But i can%26#039;t help you out with all of this. What you need to do is go to your local Outdoor Recreation store, like an REI, and they will be more than glad to outfit you with the proper boots, socks, and everything else you may want/need. Happy Hiking!!!
