How should I prepare for a tough hiking trip?

My boss is taking a group of us on a hiking trip to Vivian Creek Trail this weekend. It%26#039;s about a 17mile trip (round trip) and is probably gonna take up ~ 10 hours. Honestly, I haven%26#039;t exercised in a while and am a little worried about it...

Is there anything I can do to make this trip less strenuous? I am thinking about getting hiking boots, carb loading a couple days beforehand, and bringing gatorade.. Anything else?

Thank you so much for help~~~ I think I%26#039;m freaking out a bit %26gt;%26quot;%26lt;

How should I prepare for a tough hiking trip?
if you are going to get boots do it now nothing is worse than breaking in boots on a long hike. wear them alot even when not training. get a good pair your feet are important to completing the hike.

start walking find a few hills to go up and down on. its important to go both up and down becuase you use diffrent muscles to do both and you want to work them all out. if it is a trail hike buying a walking pole would be good. you can get them at any sporting goods store. buy an alum.. one they are lighter and adjustable.

Get you a good sun hat something that shades your neck as well as your face. start hyrating yourself a week before the hike this will get your body use to the extra water and also make sure you hydrate during the hike. take sunglasses it will keep you from squinting and getting a headache. they also make socks that prevent blisters if you go to a place like dick%26#039;s sporting goods they can really help you out.

they make some great hydrating products such as camelback that you wear like a back pack and it has a hose that allows you to drink on the move. I am not sure how much you are willing to spend so some of this you might skip.

they also make energy suppliments that you can buy. there are energy bars and there are also energy gels that runners use. they are a small amount of gooey substance that doesnt make you feel full like a energy bar does but gives you the energy

I served in the USMC where hiking was an everyday event and I am also a runner/trail runner who hikes with his family on weekends.

lastly dont stress about it i am sure there are others that are worried like you becuase they havent exercised either. just make it fun and it will be

below you will find a few links about the product i was talking about.
Reply:Limit your load. Bring lightweight items that are necessary. Wear the proper footwear that makes a good fit after 2 layers of soft socks.

You dont need to make a special diet. Dont smoke nor drink hard liquor at least a week before the climb. Yes, bring gatorade mixed with power gel. Bring Power Bars as trail food. Energy giving vitamins may also be effective.

Good luck! Stay calm. Dont Panic. Enjoy the view. Savor what nature offers you along the way.
Reply:dont pack your bad so heavily.

bring ALOT of water

extra clothes (warm ones possibly.) AND SOCKS.
Reply:bring toilet paper. you%26#039;re gonna have to go in the woods eventually

other than that you%26#039;ll be fine
